You’ve probably heard the expression “we live in a fast food society”.  Our society is geared to bring us instant satisfaction.  Think about it…you want food at 3 AM?  That’s ok.  Take a trip to a 24 hour drive thru at McDonalds.  Need cash right away?  Stop by the ATM and withdraw what you need.  You can also fill out an application online and receive an instant decision.  The examples could go on and on, and we’ve all experienced it on different levels.  While these things are nice when trying to keep a schedule, it sometimes does harm when it comes to our time with God.

The “give it to me now” mindset can come creeping in as we walk into His house.  We can so easily get into our quick fix way of thinking when it comes to worshipping God that we end up treating Him like a spiritual ATM.  We are ushered into His presence and pour our heart out to Him, and then when we feel we’ve worshipped Him long enough, or that we’ve gotten what we want, it’s time to move on.  The thing is, we’re not there to satisfy ourselves.  We’re there to bring honor to Yahweh…until He’s satisfied.  In Psalms 9:1 David writes, “I will praise You, O Lord, with all of my heart.”  “I will give You thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs of people I will praise You” (Psalms 35:18).  In Psalms 63:4 he says “I will praise You as long as I live, and in Your name I will lift up my hands.”  David then declares in Psalms 71:14, “I will praise You more and more”.  Get the picture?  We were created to worship.  And though it may be hard sometimes because of circumstances we’re going through, we still have an obligation to bring a “sacrifice of praise”.

Let’s be honest, we are all up against time schedules, even in our church services.  And while some will linger in His presence longer than others and continue to seek Him in worship, some hit the worship drive thru and are on their way to another commitment.  So how long is long enough?  As long as we live!  Praising God until He’s satisfied doesn’t just have to happen in His house.  You can praise in your car.  You can praise in your office.  You can praise while cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, waiting in an airport, and while getting ready for work.  Let us not allow today’s fast paced world to filter into our worship mindset.  Simply put, let’s praise Him “more and more”.

It is my prayer that we all learn to praise Him until He’s satisfied.

I wanna praise You,
With my life Lord,
I wanna praise You,
With all I have inside,
I wanna praise You Lord; until You’re satisfied,
So I’m gonna praise You,
Praise You more and more,

I lift my hands to You, O Lord,
I lift my hands to You, Abba Father,
I lift my hands to You,
And bring You glory,
Bring You honor,
Bring You praises,
Praises to Your name.
